Time Changes Everything

I was at the beach this past weekend.  As I was smearing SPF 30 on my shoulders I laughed at how much has changed since this time last year.

Last year I was on the beach with three of my best summer time party gals – Pants, Bear and Whole House.  We were reeking havoc on The Jersey Shore at night, staying out till all hours, spraying tanning oil all over our bodies while reading gossip magazines and blaring music on the sand.

While I’m still having as much fun as I did last summer, its a completely different kind of fun.  Its also the kind of fun I didn’t see myself having anytime soon.

This year I was lying on the beach next to my fiancé.  We’ve been planning our wedding which will be on a Californian Central Coast beach and laying on the spot where we’ll say “I do” with no risk of burning, my nose buried in a book and listening to the children running around the sand is now my idea of a good time.

Do I still reek havoc on various parts of the world?  Absolutely.  I still have my fair share of late nights full of booze and roaring laughter…  Its just that instead of my PIC (partner in crime) being a girl friend of mine with whom I will scarf down pizza afterwards commiserating about the single life, it’s the man I’ll be growing more wild about each year.

And the best part about time changing everything is that it makes me look forward to seeing how much my fiancé and I will change together.

“You will be the same five years from now as you are today, except for two things: the people you meet, and the books you read.”
