Monday 10/20
I had a woman come into where I work to measure our floor space – we are considering redoing the carpeting and instead of tile, putting in hard wood laminate.
I could smell her a mile away… I know that I am a lookist (racist makes judgements about people based on race, a lookist makes judgements about people based on the way they look) and I am working on this unattractive attribute of mine… But I feel like smell is much different than look.
On the one hand, if you are poor and cannot afford to dress yourself as well as some others then this is not your fault, you should not be judged for this. If you are a little outdated with your styles or prefer to dress in a certain way I realize that it is not fair for me to judge you based on the fashion decisions you make. But to me, there is no excuse for the lack of cleanliness.
If you are in a restaurant and have a fresh stain on your shirt, that is understandable (I am a klutz and get food on myself all of the time) or if you are at the gym / a sports event and are all sweaty and smelly, this is totally appropriate, if you work in manual labor or with smelly hazardous elements then you own the right to smell awful. Even if you are home sick for a few days and have not showered.
There is no excuse, however, for being a sales rep for a company and showing up to an appointment smelling like you have never heard of deodorant!
I’m just sayin…
