Monday 10/27
So many QF things happened over the weekend – my father getting married had SO MANY special elements but the worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) thing was our travel plans back to San Luis Obispo.
SLO has the teeniest airport – only one airline now goes in and out of it with any sort of regularity – US Airways – which basically means that you are forced to fly this airline unless you want to drive to Santa Barbara or LA or San Fran…
First off US Airways now charges $15 for ONE checked bag and charges for water in the air. Nothing is free. Plus, one airline attendant (no more stewardesses) said that in 2009 they intend to take all of the tv / movie stuff off ALL flights, even those international ones! WHAT?
So I digress – last night due to weather we got re-routed to Santa Barbara, an hour and a half from SLO. Upon landing the pilot tells us that we’ll be given either hotel vouchers to stay the night and fly with the to SLO on that aircraft in the morning OR be put on a shuttle that will take us to SLO right away.
That was at 10 pm. At 11 pm we hadn’t seen anyone with this info and our crew had all gone off to a hotel. No info, no baggage no nuthin by 11:30.
Around midnight we got our bags and the truth – they are not responsible for getting us to our final destination since it was due to weather. Um, how is this reasonable?
A group of us decided to bite the bullet and go in on renting a van and driving home – although we all agreed this would have been a fine option if given to us at 10 pm!
Wouldn’t you know it – the rental car place was all shut down except for Avis, who only had no cars ready to rent. We were given the option of renting one that was not cleaned from its last use – no prob, right?
I think some frat-boy-rugby-players had used it prior to us – it smelled like gym socks and was covered in sun flower seed shells! No sleep for the weary… At 3 am I fell into bed and my poor love had to be up and at work (and hour commute) for a 6:30 am meeting…
Ugh! I do not endorse US Airways at all!!!
