Pour One Out for the Homies We’ve Lost
My grand mother passed away this week. She will be greatly missed and as a constant reminder and dedication to her, let claim (or blame) lay where it should – she was the subject of my very first blog.
Edith, born in 1920 in New York, died of natural causes and on her own terms on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 3:35 am EST in West Hartford, CT.
A former college professor of Economics, instructor in ESOL and coach in U.S. citizenship, Edith was an avid community servant. In her 16 years of retirement she enjoyed leading book discussions, serving on committees and boards, fine dining, watching baseball, cheering for the UCONN’s women’s basketball team, building jigsaw puzzles, attending cultural events, caring for her family and friends, and playing cards and Mahjongg. Edith had a full and active life. She lived, studied and worked in New York, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, and Connecticut.
Edith is survived by her husband, Vincent, who is afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, her two daughters, Catherine of Pujols-sur-Dordogne, France and Susan of Elmwood, CT, her granddaughter, AC and her fiancé Bryan of San Luis Obispo, CA.
A celebration of life will be held in Edith’s honor for her close friends and loved ones the weekend of January 23rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), 565 Boylston Street, Second Floor, Boston, MA, 02116.
