What Day Is It Today?

What day is it today, you ask?  Well, I’ll tell ya!  Today is September 1st and according to the internet today is Emma M. Nutt Day who was the first woman telephone operator (her first day was September 1, 1878).  Apparently she loved her job and stayed there doing it for 33 years. And this seemingly is worthy of an entire day dedicated to her.   Who am I to judge?

So what do I do when I stumble upon this list?  I go directly to my birthday, which, I must say is absolutely perfect for me.  It’s about as Questionably Fabulous as could be!  My birthday is January 12th and that is, are you ready?  It is Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day.  Yes, I am serious.  Go ahead and click on the link, I’m not lying!  Isn’t that truly truly outrageous?  Plus, as you’ll see if you do click on the link, there is no origin or history out there as to WHY this day is the Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day…  I think its cause I was born on that day but that might just be me.  (For the record January 12th is also National Pharmacist Day but we don’t need to go there… )

Other interesting dates to me are (in the order which I looked them up):

  • July 18th – my husband’s birthday – National Caviar Day (He’s so high class!)
  • August 17th – the day I met my husband – National Thrift Shop Day(Never know when you’re going to find a gem!)
  • April 25th – my wedding anniversary – East Meets West Day (Cause my east coasters had to come west, I guess, I know, I’m trying way to hard to have these make sense…  You will too if you look up specific dates!) It is also World Penguin Day but I can’t tie that to my wedding in any way, sorry.

I started to make a list of all the funny days that I found on here but the list got SO long.  Just go and brouse for yourself :)

When : Always March 30th

On March 30, 1981, President Ronald Reagan was wounded in an assassination attempt. Lots of confusion prevailed. In the White House, then Secretary of State Alexander Haig was taken a little out of context when he said “I am in control here”. Instead of focusing upon the entire statement, people and the press foscused upon these few words. Political uproar eventually led to his resignation.

On that infamous day, I am in Control Day was born.

History sometimes fades with time. Alexander Haig’s statement was all but forgotten. Meanwhile, this special day continued on, and evolved. People came to think about this day in a different context. They personalized it into a day to get their life in control. In that sense, today is definitely a call to action. “I am in Control Day” is your chance to get things in order and under control.

Most likely, the first step is to take a deep breath and relax. Now, assess the situation, and………. get things under control. Once you have accomplished this today, you can work on staying in control everyday.
