I’m Back!

Only due to the Questionably Fabulous customer service of Great Britain I finally have internet service.  How long did I go without you ask?  Um, try 8 weeks.  Yea, two months!  Those of you who still live in The States and you have to wait 24 hours or something for a switch to be thrown, don’t complain.  And also, for those of you who whine about having to wait from 8 am till 12 noon for the cable guy, yea, shut it.  Our electrician was supposed to come on Monday afternoon at 2:30, he showed up at 9 am on Wednesday.  No call, no return of my messages…

Anyway, besides suffering and waiting on all sorts of repair people and living without all of my furniture, pictures, shoes, purses, clothes etc I’ve really been enjoying myself here in London.  Spring has started to show itself with some sunnier days and less rain (oh please let me knot have jinxed it).  The flowers in our yard are starting to blossom and Bryan’s greenhouse is completely alive with all sorts of veggies.

I have fallen in love with being a “Domestic Engineer” which is the fancy way of saying Homemaker.  I cannot tell you how much I like cooking dinner for my husband each night!  I will admit, I don’t particularly love all the housework that I do but I am glad that Bryan doesn’t have to do it after a long week at work.  Three times a week I get to take a yoga class down the road from our new FABULOUS house and I’m starting to feel like this is a real home.

Over Easter I went back to The US for a memorial service for my most wonderful grandfather, we scattered his ashes in The Chesapeake Bay, his favorite place.  And then I got to travel down to North Carolina and then to Georgia to see two of my closest friends from college.  It was well worth the 8 planes I went on in 9 days.

I’ve made some good friends here in the UK, although I think it is odd that most of them are Americans who are also “supportive spouses”.  By the way, most companies call us “trailing spouses” and I hate the trailing part so I changed it.  Anyhow, four great American Gals and I have become quite close and we celebrate our lives each week with either Margarita Monday or Wine Wednesday…  Sounds totally like a bunch of drunks but we mostly just get together at each other’s houses and chat.  I’ve also somehow gotten myself into chairing a group at the AWC (American Women’s Club) for those of us here under the age of 35.  Taking tours of museums, shopping adventures, dance classes, exploring different areas of London etc, it’s a great group.  I’ve met some Brits too who are super nice and I’d love to get closer with.  I think they are already very tight knit and as it turns out they are all single…  and here I am the older married American…  funny how much my life has changed.  It’s both easier and harder in different ways to make friends.  One of our closest  “couple” friends we met, oddly enough, through our Wedding DJ!  LOL – yes, we joke that a DJ saved our social lives!

Bryan and I have also been enjoying the location we’re in.  I mean, in respect to the rest of the world!  We’ve spent a weekend in Bath, one in Paris and in a few weeks to celebrate our one year anniversary we’re headed to Dublin. Cannot wait to toast my honey at The Guinness Brewery!

Although I now have internet and seemingly lots of free time I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep up with this blog as regularly as I want to…  but it’s good to keep a diary of things as time goes on here.

Keep in touch!
